Stripe Fees in Mexico (2026): Cards, Transfers, and the Fixed Peso
By the Profitvana Editorial Team · Updated August 2026
Mexico has one of Stripe's higher card rates and — unusually — local bank transfers cost more than cards rather than less. Combined with a fixed three-peso fee, that reshapes what is worth selling online. Here are the 2026 numbers.
The rate card
Stripe Mexico charges 3.6% + MXN 3.00 on a domestic card. A card issued abroad adds 0.5%, and currency conversion adds 2%.
Local payment methods — bank debits and transfers — are priced at 4% + MXN 3.00, a genuine outlier: in most markets pulling funds from a bank account is the cheapest route available, and in Mexico it is the most expensive.
| Payment method | Rate | Fee on MXN 500 |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic card | 3.6% + MXN 3.00 | MXN 21.00 |
| International card | 4.1% + MXN 3.00 | MXN 23.50 |
| International card, converted | 6.1% + MXN 3.00 | MXN 33.50 |
| Bank debit / transfer | 4% + MXN 3.00 | MXN 23.00 |
Where the fixed peso lands
MXN 3.00 is small, but on the low-value transactions that dominate Mexican e-commerce it is not negligible:
Below about MXN 300 the fixed fee adds a full percentage point or more to the headline. As everywhere, the answer is basket size rather than rate negotiation — but the effect is milder here than in markets with a euro or dollar fixed fee, because MXN 3.00 is a smaller absolute amount.
| Sale | Stripe fee | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|
| MXN 100 | MXN 6.60 | 6.6% |
| MXN 300 | MXN 13.80 | 4.6% |
| MXN 1,000 | MXN 39.00 | 3.9% |
| MXN 5,000 | MXN 183.00 | 3.7% |
The international surcharge is mild — the conversion is not
At 0.5%, Stripe's Mexican international surcharge is one of the gentlest on this site: a US card costs 4.1% + MXN 3.00 against a domestic 3.6%.
Conversion is four times that. If you price in dollars and settle in pesos, the 2% conversion fee is charged on the whole amount and typically dwarfs the surcharge. Mexican businesses selling into the US should price in pesos where the customer will accept it, and where they will not, compare the cost of converting outside Stripe — see the Wise and Payoneer calculators.
Against PayPal in Mexico
PayPal is the default comparison for most Mexican merchants, and Stripe is the cheaper of the two on a domestic sale — 3.6% + MXN 3.00 against PayPal's 3.95% + MXN 4.00.
The gap widens on conversion, where PayPal charges a 3.5% spread against Stripe's 2%. The full breakdown is in PayPal fees in Mexico; the short version is that PayPal earns its place at checkout through buyer trust, not price.
