Global Fee Index 2026

Last updated August 2026

What the major payment processors and marketplaces actually charge sellers, country by country. Every one of the 46rows below was read from the provider’s own published fee page on 2026-08-25 and carries a link to it.

There is no shortage of articles about fees. There is almost nothing that compares the same provider across markets, which is where the surprises are: identical services priced two and a half times apart, eurozone countries charged different percentages for the same transaction, and two markets where the fixed per-transaction fee simply does not exist.

Six findings worth quoting

  1. There is no single “eurozone rate”. PayPal charges 2.90% + €0.35 in France and Spain, 2.99% + €0.39 in Germany, and 3.40% + €0.35 in Italy and the Netherlands — same currency, same service, about €500 a year apart on €100,000 of volume.
  2. The Middle East and Africa pay a 4% currency conversion spread where Europe pays 3%. It applies to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Kuwait, and Qatar alike, and it is charged on the full amount — so on foreign income it usually costs more than the transaction fee itself.
  3. Stripe’s cheapest market costs a third of its dearest. United Kingdom is 1.5% + 20p (standard UK cards); Brazil is 3.99% + R$0.39. The driver is regulation, not the provider: capped interchange in Europe against uncapped rates elsewhere.
  4. Two Stripe markets charge no fixed fee at all. India (2%) and Japan (3.6%) price as a flat percentage, which inverts the economics of small orders: a ¥300 sale in Japan costs exactly 3.6%, while a £1.50 sale in the UK costs 14.8% once the 20p is counted.
  5. Local payment rails are not automatically cheaper. Pix in Brazil costs 1.19% against 3.99% for a card, and PayNow in Singapore 1.3% against 3.4% — but Malaysia’s FPX costs exactly the same as a card, and Mexican bank transfers cost more than one.
  6. Amazon Australia is the only marketplace here with no minimum referral fee. The UK charges £0.25, Canada C$0.40, Mexico MXN 8.00, the UAE 1 AED, and Egypt 5 EGP. On cheap items that floor, not the percentage, decides whether the listing is viable.

Amazon: referral fees, minimums, and subscriptions

Marketplace fees are not directly comparable the way processor rates are, because category structures differ by country. What is comparable is the shape: the standard rate, whether a minimum fee applies, and what the seller pays monthly before selling anything.

Changes already announced

  • Stripe Australia— Stripe’s own pricing page states lower domestic pricing from 1 October 2026 and lower international pricing from 1 April 2027.
  • Amazon UK — since 20 March 2026 the Digital Services Fee follows the digital services tax rate of the store where the sale happens, so a UK seller pays 2% on UK sales and 3% on sales in the French, Italian, and Spanish stores.
  • PayPal US — the current fee schedule is dated 15 July 2026.

Methodology

One rule: every figure is read from the provider’s own published page for that country, and the URL is printed beside it so you can check the number yourself. Nothing is taken from another comparison site, and nothing is written from memory.

Where a provider does not publish a figure openly for a market, the cell is left blank rather than estimated. Where a provider publishes its live rate card only behind a login — TikTok Shop is the clearest case — we say so on the page instead of printing a number that looks more certain than it is.

Rates are the standard published rates. Negotiated volume pricing exists at most providers and is not reflected here. Full detail on how we verify and correct fees is in our editorial policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I quote or republish these figures?

Yes. The index is free to quote, republish, and build on, including commercially, with attribution to Profitvana and a link to https://www.profitvana.com/fee-index. If you need the data as JSON, the same dataset is served at https://www.profitvana.com/api/v1/fee-index with no key required.

Where do the numbers come from?

Each row was read from the provider's own published pricing or fee page for that specific country, and the source URL is printed next to every entry. Nothing is copied from other comparison sites, and no figure comes from an AI model's recollection.

How current is the data?

Every row in this edition was verified on 2026-08-25. We re-check the underlying fee database monthly and immediately when a provider announces a change, and the verification date on this page is the real date of the last check.

Why are some fields blank?

Because the provider does not publish that figure openly for that market. We leave it blank rather than estimate it — an empty cell is more honest than a plausible-looking number.

Does PayPal really charge different rates inside the eurozone?

Yes. France and Spain are 2.90% + €0.35, Germany is 2.99% + €0.39, and Italy and the Netherlands are 3.40% + €0.35 — for the same transaction in the same currency. The gap is roughly €500 a year on €100,000 of volume.
