Selling fees by country
Last updated August 2026
The same provider charges very different rates depending on where your business is registered. These are 47 country guides across 22markets, each rate read from the provider’s own published fee page for that country.
Most fee articles cover one platform in one market — usually the United States. This is the other view: pick your country and see what every provider we cover charges you there. For the ranked cross-country comparison in a single table, see the Global Fee Index.
By country
Countries with the most coverage first. A country with several entries is the useful case — it lets you compare processors on the same market rather than against a US benchmark that does not apply to you.

If you already know the provider and want to compare markets, start from its calculator and follow the country links at the bottom of any guide — every geo guide lists the same provider in every other country we cover.

What actually drives the difference
Three things, in order of how much they move the number:
- Interchange regulation. The EEA and UK cap card interchange, so Stripe charges about 1.5% there against 3.4% in Singapore and Hong Kong and 3.99% in Brazil. This is the single largest factor and nothing you can negotiate.
- The fixed fee. A percentage looks the same everywhere; a fixed fee does not. Japan and India have none at all, while Hong Kong charges HK$2.35 per transaction — which makes a small order cost 11% there and 3.6% in Tokyo.
- Currency conversion. Usually the largest line on foreign income and the one most sellers never see: 3% in Europe, 4% for Middle East and Africa accounts, charged on the full amount rather than on the fee.
Frequently asked questions
Why do payment fees differ so much between countries?
Mostly regulation. Card interchange is capped by law across the EEA and the UK, which is why Stripe charges 1.5% there and 3.4% in Singapore or Hong Kong where it is not capped. On top of that, each provider sets its own cross-border surcharge and currency conversion spread per market.
Does the country of my business or my customer decide the fee?
Both, and they do different jobs. Where your business is registered decides which rate card applies to you. Where your customer's card or account was issued decides whether you pay the domestic rate or a cross-border surcharge on top of it.
Which country is cheapest to take payments in?
For cards, the UK, Ireland, France, and Germany, where Stripe charges around 1.5% because EEA interchange is capped. The most expensive markets on our index are Brazil at 3.99% and Singapore and Hong Kong at 3.4%.
How often are these rates checked?
Every rate is re-verified monthly against the provider's own official fee page for that country, and immediately when a provider announces a change. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed.
