Amazon Japan Seller Fees (2026): The ¥30 Floor and 15.4% Media
By the Profitvana Editorial Team · Updated August 2026
Amazon Japan prices like no other Amazon marketplace we cover: most big categories are tiered by item price with rates from 5% to 15.4%, the minimum fee is a tiny ¥30, and the odd decimal in 15.4% is not a typo — it is consumption tax baked into the media rate. Here are the 2026 numbers.
The two plans
The professional plan (大口出品) costs ¥4,900 a month before consumption tax. The individual plan (小口出品) has no monthly fee but charges ¥100 per item sold.
¥4,900 ÷ ¥100 gives a break-even of 49 units a month — close to Australia's 51, far above Canada's 20. Below roughly 50 sales a month the individual plan is cheaper; above it, professional wins and unlocks the usual toolset.
Referral fees: tiered by price, not just category
Where the US and UK mostly charge one flat rate per category, Amazon Japan tiers several major categories by the item's price — cheaper items pay a lower percentage:
The consequence: a ¥2,000 fashion item and a ¥20,000 one can sit in different fee bands. Check where your price points fall before assuming the headline rate.
| Category | Referral fee |
|---|---|
| Media (books, DVD, music, software) | 15.4% |
| Electronics | 5–8.4% by price tier |
| Fashion & accessories | 5–15.4% by price tier |
| Home & kitchen | 5–15.4% by price tier |
| Beauty & health | 5–10.4% by price tier |
| Minimum referral fee (most categories) | ¥30 |
The ¥30 minimum is the smallest in the Amazon world
Thirty yen is roughly US$0.20 — below the UK's £0.25, Canada's C$0.40, and Egypt's 5 EGP in real terms, and second only to Australia's no-minimum policy.
On a ¥500 item in a 5% tier, the percentage (¥25) falls below the floor, so ¥30 applies — an effective 6%. The floor barely distorts anything: low-priced selling works on Amazon Japan in a way it does not in Canada or the UK.
| Sale price | 5% tier fee | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|
| ¥500 | ¥30 (floor) | 6.0% |
| ¥600 | ¥30 | 5.0% |
| ¥2,000 | ¥100 | 5.0% |
| ¥10,000 | ¥500 | 5.0% |
Media at 15.4% — and why the odd number
Books, DVDs, music and software carry Amazon Japan's top rate, 15.4% — the 10% consumption tax folded into a 14% base. Japanese fee tables often quote tax-inclusive rates where other markets add tax on the invoice; when comparing to the US 15%, remember the American number has sales tax still to come.
Media is also where the individual plan's ¥100 per-item fee bites hardest: on a ¥800 used book, plan fee plus referral floor already take ¥223 — 28% — before shipping. Volume media sellers need the professional plan sooner than the 49-unit break-even suggests.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Amazon Japan take per sale?
A referral fee of 5% to 15.4% depending on category and price tier — media is 15.4%, electronics 5–8.4%, fashion and home 5–15.4% — with a ¥30 minimum in most categories.
What does it cost monthly to sell on Amazon Japan?
¥4,900 before consumption tax for the professional plan, or ¥100 per item sold on the individual plan. The break-even is 49 units a month.
Why is the media rate 15.4% instead of a round number?
It is a tax-inclusive figure: Japan's 10% consumption tax folded into a 14% base rate. Japanese fee tables often quote rates with tax included where other Amazon marketplaces add tax separately.
Is Amazon Japan good for low-priced items?
Unusually so. The ¥30 minimum referral fee (about US$0.20) is the smallest of any Amazon marketplace with a floor, so a ¥500–600 item keeps an effective rate near its category percentage instead of being eaten by a minimum.
