Amazon Australia Seller Fees (2026): No Minimum Referral Fee
By the Profitvana Editorial Team · Updated August 2026
Amazon Australia has one feature that no other Amazon marketplace we cover shares: there is no minimum referral fee. In the US, UK, Canada, and UAE a cheap item still carries a floor of 25 to 40 cents. In Australia a A$2 sale costs exactly the percentage — which quietly makes low-value selling viable here in a way it is not elsewhere.
The two plans and the exact break-even
The Professional plan costs A$49.95 a month excluding GST and allows unlimited listings. The Individual plan has no monthly cost but charges A$0.99 per unit sold.
A$49.95 ÷ A$0.99 gives a break-even of about 51 units a month. Below roughly 50 sales, Individual is cheaper; above it, Professional wins and the gap widens quickly — at 300 units a month Individual would cost A$297 against A$49.95.
Individual sellers also pay an extra A$1.00 closing fee on every media item sold, which pushes the break-even lower still for anyone selling books, DVDs, or games.
Referral fees run 6% to 15%
The referral fee is a percentage of the total the customer pays, and most categories fall between 6% and 15%:
The spread is the widest of any Amazon marketplace on this site, and the low end is genuinely low — 6% on video game consoles is below what TikTok Shop charges.
| Category | Referral fee |
|---|---|
| Video game consoles | 6% |
| Base equipment power tools | 7% |
| Consumer electronics | 8% |
| Furniture | 12% |
| Home and kitchen | 13% |
| Media (books, DVD, music, software, video) | 15% |
| Minimum referral fee | None |
No minimum fee changes the low-price maths
Every other Amazon marketplace we have documented imposes a floor: £0.25 in the UK, CAD $0.40 in Canada, 1 AED in the UAE. Australia has none.
On a A$3 item in a 13% category, an Australian seller pays A$0.39. A Canadian seller listing the equivalent pays the CAD $0.40 minimum regardless of how cheap the item is — which on a A$3-equivalent sale is more than 13%.
For sellers of small accessories, spare parts, and consumables, this single structural difference is worth more than a percentage point or two on the headline rate.
| Sale price | Referral fee at 13% | What a A$0.40 minimum would have cost |
|---|---|---|
| A$2.00 | A$0.26 | A$0.40 |
| A$3.00 | A$0.39 | A$0.40 |
| A$5.00 | A$0.65 | A$0.65 |
| A$20.00 | A$2.60 | A$2.60 |
GST and the true monthly cost
The A$49.95 subscription is quoted excluding GST, as is the A$0.99 per-unit fee. GST-registered businesses claim the credit back; sellers below the A$75,000 registration threshold do not, and for them the plan is effectively A$54.95.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Amazon Australia take per sale?
A referral fee of 6% to 15% depending on category — 6% on video game consoles, 8% on consumer electronics, 13% on home and kitchen, 15% on media — with no minimum referral fee at all.
Is there a minimum referral fee on Amazon Australia?
No. Amazon Australia states there is no minimum or maximum referral fee, which is unusual — the UK charges a £0.25 floor, Canada CAD $0.40, and the UAE 1 AED.
Is the Professional plan worth A$49.95 a month?
It pays for itself at about 51 units a month (A$49.95 ÷ A$0.99 per unit on the Individual plan). Media sellers reach the break-even sooner because Individual adds a A$1.00 closing fee per media item.
Do Amazon Australia fees include GST?
No — the A$49.95 subscription and A$0.99 per-unit fee are quoted excluding GST. Registered businesses claim the credit; sellers under the A$75,000 threshold absorb it.
