Amazon UK Seller Fees (2026): What a Sale Really Costs

By the Profitvana Editorial Team · Updated August 2026

Amazon UK sellers pay three separate things: a plan, a referral fee on the sale, and a Digital Services Fee charged on top of Amazon's own fees — not on your item price. That third one is invisible in most fee guides, and from 20 March 2026 it no longer costs the same in every European store. Here is the whole 2026 picture, with the arithmetic.

The two selling plans — and the exact break-even

The Professional plan costs £25 per month excluding VAT and lets you list unlimited items. The Individual plan costs nothing monthly but charges £0.75 for every unit you sell.

So the break-even is simple: £25 ÷ £0.75 = 34 units a month. Below roughly 33 sales, Individual is cheaper; at 34 or more, the Professional plan wins and keeps winning — at 200 units a month the Individual plan would cost you £150 against £25.

Professional is also the plan that unlocks the Buy Box, bulk listing, and advertising, so most sellers who intend to grow are on it from day one regardless of volume.

Referral fees by category (the percentage Amazon takes)

The referral fee comes off the total price the buyer pays, including any delivery you charge, and there is a minimum of £0.25 per item on every category. Most categories sit at 15%.

The low-value tiers matter more than sellers expect: on clothing, the rate triples between a £15 item and a £25 one.

The Digital Services Fee — the 2% almost nobody explains

Since 1 October 2024 Amazon charges UK sellers a separate Digital Services Fee. The critical detail: it is a percentage of Amazon's fees, not of your sale price. On a £4.50 referral fee, the 2% UK rate adds £0.09 — small per order, but it applies to FBA fulfilment fees too, and it compounds across every unit you ship.

From 20 March 2026 Amazon stopped applying one flat rate across Europe and began charging the Digital Services Fee at the rate of the country whose store the sale happens in. For a UK-established seller that means 2% on sales in the UK store, but 3% on sales in the French, Italian, and Spanish stores.

If you run pan-European listings, that is a real 1-percentage-point difference on your Amazon fees depending on which marketplace the order came from — and it lands quietly on the invoice, not on the listing page.

A £30 clothing sale, all in

Take a £30 top sold in the UK store on the Professional plan:

Amazon's cut is £4.59 — an effective 15.3%, not the 15% on the fee page. Add the plan at £25 a month and the true cost per unit depends on volume: across 50 units that is another £0.50 each, so £5.09 in total.

VAT on Amazon's fees

Amazon's UK seller fees carry 20% UK VAT. If you are VAT-registered you supply your VAT number and reclaim it on your return, so it is a cash-flow item rather than a cost.

If you are trading below the £90,000 UK VAT registration threshold you cannot reclaim it, and that 20% is a genuine extra cost: the £4.59 above becomes £5.51, pushing the effective rate to 18.4%. Sellers modelling margins on the headline 15% are routinely three percentage points out for exactly this reason.

Where FBA changes the maths

Everything above is the selling fee. Fulfilment by Amazon adds a per-unit fulfilment fee based on size and weight band, plus monthly storage — and the Digital Services Fee applies to those fees as well.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Amazon UK take per sale?

For most categories, 15% of the total the buyer pays, with a £0.25 minimum, plus a Digital Services Fee of 2% of that referral fee. On a £30 sale that is £4.59 in total — an effective 15.3%. Electronics is 7%, and clothing is 5% under £15, 10% from £15 to £20, and 15% above £20.

What is the Amazon Digital Services Fee in the UK?

A fee introduced on 1 October 2024 that is charged on Amazon's own fees — referral and FBA fulfilment — rather than on your item price. The UK rate is 2%. Since 20 March 2026 the rate follows the country of the store where the sale happens, so a UK seller pays 3% on sales made in the French, Italian, and Spanish stores.

Is the Professional plan worth £25 a month?

It pays for itself at 34 units a month (£25 ÷ £0.75 per unit on the Individual plan). Below that, Individual is cheaper on fees — but Professional is required for the Buy Box, bulk listing, and advertising, so most sellers who plan to scale start there.

Do I pay VAT on Amazon fees in the UK?

Yes, 20% UK VAT applies to Amazon's seller fees. VAT-registered sellers reclaim it on their return. Sellers below the £90,000 registration threshold cannot, which turns a 15.3% effective fee into 18.4%.

Are Amazon UK fees charged on the delivery I charge the buyer?

Yes. The referral fee applies to the total the buyer pays, which includes any delivery charge you set — so free-delivery pricing does not avoid it, it just moves the cost into the item price.

Amazon fees in other countries

Amazon prices every market differently — the same sale can cost twice as much depending on where your business is registered. We verify each of these against Amazon’s own published fee page for that country:
