Nisab in Turkey: Republic gold coins and 22K
Turkish gold savings take the form of Republic coins (Cumhuriyet altını, 22K — a full coin weighs 7.216 grams and contains about 6.6 grams of pure gold), 24K and 22K gram gold, and 22K bracelets. Convert each to pure gold before summing. The lira moves strongly against the dollar, so the TRY nisab changes quickly; use the figure on the day you pay. Nisab is measured in pure gold, and jewellery is never pure: multiply each piece's weight by its karat's purity (0.9167 for 22K, 0.875 for 21K, 0.75 for 18K, 0.585 for 14K) before comparing the total with 85 grams. The zakat year
The zakat year (hawl) is lunar — about 354 days, not 365. Fixing one Hijri date each year (many people use Ramadan) keeps the calculation consistent; paying on a Gregorian anniversary drifts eleven days later every year.
Common situations for zakat payers in Turkey
Turkey's inflation makes the timing question sharp: the nisab in lira can rise substantially between the start and end of a hawl. Zakat is calculated on the value of what you hold on the zakat date, at that day's prices, so the lira figure to use is today's.
Gold accounts (altın hesabı) at banks hold gold by the gram and are zakatable at the day's gram price; Republic coins and bracelets at their gold content. Participation-bank accounts and BES private pension savings that can be withdrawn are zakatable; many scholars treat the pension as zakatable only when it becomes accessible.

Diyanet, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, publishes guidance and a nisab figure and receives zakat through the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation; direct payment and large charities such as Kızılay's zakat programmes are common as well.
