The short answer: Mercari takes a flat 10% of the completed item price plus any shipping the buyer pays — $10 on a $100 free-shipping sale. There is no seller payment-processing fee. Buyers pay their own 3.6% Buyer Protection fee, which never touches your payout. The 10% selling fee
Mercari's US help center states one seller fee: a flat 10% selling fee on the completed item price and buyer-paid shipping. It applies whether the sale comes through a listing, an offer or a promotion, and it is charged on the price the buyer actually paid, so accepted offers are charged on the offer price.
There are no listing fees, no monthly fees, and — since Mercari's January 2025 restructure — no separate payment-processing fee for sellers. Older guides that add 2.9% + $0.50 processing on top of the selling fee are describing the pre-2025 schedule.

The shipping detail: the 10% applies to postage too
Because the fee is charged on item price plus buyer-paid shipping, the shipping line is not fee-free. Charge a buyer $8 for shipping and Mercari takes $0.80 of it. If the label actually costs you $8, that shipment loses money before the item is even considered. Sellers who use Mercari's prepaid labels should add roughly 11% on top of the label cost when setting a shipping charge, or fold shipping into the item price and offer free shipping.

What the buyer pays, and why it still matters to you
Mercari moved most of its fee load onto the buyer: a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item price and shipping, charged at checkout. It does not come out of your payout, but it does raise the price the buyer sees. On a $100 listing the buyer pays about $103.60, which is the number they compare against the same item on eBay or Poshmark.
