How Facebook Marketplace fees work
For shipped checkout orders on Facebook Marketplace, Meta charges a 10% selling fee per shipment (with a $0.80 minimum), applied to the full transaction total including shipping. Local pickup sales have no fee at all.

Two kinds of Marketplace sale, two different costs
Facebook Marketplace is really two systems. Local sales — where the buyer messages you, meets you and pays cash or by a payment app — carry no Meta fee at all; Marketplace is a free classifieds board for those. Shipped sales with checkout on Facebook, available to US sellers, route payment through Meta and carry the selling fee this calculator models: 10% of the transaction total including shipping, with a minimum of $0.80 per shipment, and that fee includes payment processing. There is no listing fee and no subscription in either mode.
The 10% rate replaced the 5% (minimum $0.40) fee Meta charged from 2020 into 2024, and many articles still quote the old figure. Meta's help centre and the seller dashboard show the current rate; if your dashboard shows a different number under a promotional programme, enter that instead.
Costs beyond the fee
Shipping on checkout orders is either prepaid by the buyer at your listed rate or covered by a Meta-provided label whose cost is deducted from your payout, so under-pricing shipping comes out of your side. Payouts to a bank account arrive after delivery plus a holding period that is longer for new sellers. Chargebacks and 'item not received' claims on checkout orders are decided by Meta's purchase-protection rules, and sellers without tracking usually lose them — tracking is the cheapest insurance you can buy on Marketplace.
How Facebook Marketplace compares
For local sales nothing is cheaper than free, and Marketplace has displaced Craigslist for furniture, appliances and vehicles for that reason. For shipped sales, 10% all-in sits between eBay's 13.6% + $0.40 and Mercari's 10% (which excludes the buyer-paid protection fee) and well below Poshmark's 20%. Marketplace lacks eBay's buyer pool for collectibles and its search reach, so most sellers use it for local, bulky and low-value items and ship higher-value goods elsewhere.
