Gold trades globally in US dollars per troy ounce. To show the price in THB, we convert at the live exchange rate and divide by 31.1035 grams, then adjust for karat purity. That is why the local price moves with both the gold market and the THB exchange rate.

Gold in Thailand: the local market
Thai gold has its own standard: 96.5% purity (slightly above 23K) sold per baht-weight — 15.244 g for bars, 15.16 g for ornaments — with Yaowarat (Bangkok's Chinatown) as the national marketplace.
Thai shops buy back at posted spreads, making gold a liquid household savings vehicle; the Gold Traders Association publishes the reference price several times a day.
