Gold price in the UAE, explained
Gold trades globally in US dollars per troy ounce. To show the price in AED, we convert at the live exchange rate and divide by 31.1035 grams, then adjust for karat purity. That is why the local price moves with both the gold market and the AED exchange rate.

Gold in the UAE: the local market
Dubai — the 'City of Gold' — trades mostly 22K and 21K in the Deira Gold Souk, with prices posted per gram and updated through the day. Making charges are negotiable and often the real difference between shops.
The large South Asian community also prices in tolas (11.664 g). The UAE's 5% VAT applies to jewelry, but tourists can reclaim most of it through the refund scheme at departure.
