Gold trades globally in US dollars per troy ounce. To show the price in VND, we convert at the live exchange rate and divide by 31.1035 grams, then adjust for karat purity. That is why the local price moves with both the gold market and the VND exchange rate.

Gold in Vietnam: the local market
Vietnamese gold is measured in tael (lượng, 37.5 g), with the SJC-branded tael bar the national standard — often trading at a substantial premium to world spot because of import controls.
Gold is deeply embedded in Vietnamese life: property deals were historically priced in taels, and 24K rings and 'thần tài' (god of wealth) day purchases remain huge demand events.
