Kenya's retail gold market is modest — mostly 18K jewelry in Nairobi and Mombasa, much of it imported via Dubai — while artisanal mining in the west feeds regional trade.
Gold pricing follows the dollar spot converted to shillings, so the USD/KES rate moves local prices as much as the metal itself.

How a Kenyan shop quote is built
Kenyan jewellers in Nairobi and Mombasa price 18K and 21K per gram in shillings from the Dubai rate converted at the day's exchange rate, plus workmanship. Because the shilling floats, the local price moves as much with the exchange rate as with the metal.
Selling gold in Kenya
Buy-back is at the day's rate for the karat less a deduction, with workmanship lost. Kenya has no large formal bullion market, so pieces bought in Dubai with an invoice stating karat and weight are the easiest to resell.
