Gold trades globally in US dollars per troy ounce. To show the price in EGP, we convert at the live exchange rate and divide by 31.1035 grams, then adjust for karat purity. That is why the local price moves with both the gold market and the EGP exchange rate.

Gold in Egypt: the local market
Egypt's standard is 21K ('ayar 21'), stamped and sold per gram across the gold districts of Cairo's Sagha and beyond. Gold is the default household hedge: every pound devaluation sends buyers to the souq.
Local prices can run above the converted international spot when the pound is under pressure — a premium that reflects import scarcity and demand for hard assets.
