The Muttrah and Nizwa souks trade 21K and 22K priced in Omani rials, which are divided into 1,000 baisa — watch the decimal when comparing figures. The rial is pegged to the dollar, so the OMR nisab follows the gold price alone. Nisab is measured in pure gold, and jewellery is never pure: multiply each piece's weight by its karat's purity (0.9167 for 22K, 0.875 for 21K, 0.75 for 18K, 0.585 for 14K) before comparing the total with 85 grams. The zakat year
The zakat year (hawl) is lunar — about 354 days, not 365. Fixing one Hijri date each year (many people use Ramadan) keeps the calculation consistent; paying on a Gregorian anniversary drifts eleven days later every year.

Omani rials are divided into 1,000 baisa, and the nisab figure on this page is in rials — a figure such as 3,500 rials is three thousand five hundred rials, not baisa. Salary and savings balances, and shares on the Muscat Stock Exchange, are zakatable on the same rules as elsewhere in the Gulf.
