Reverb fees, broken down
- Selling fee — 5.00% of each sale (item plus the shipping you charge).
- Payment processing — 3.19% of each sale (item plus the shipping you charge).

How Reverb's two fees work together
Reverb charges a 5% selling fee on the total the buyer pays including shipping, with a minimum of $0.50 and a cap of $500 per item, plus payment processing through Reverb Payments of 3.19% + $0.49 on the total including sales tax (2.99% + $0.49 for Reverb Preferred Sellers). Together that is about 8.2% + $0.49 on a domestic sale — $8.68 on a $100 pedal, $410 on a $5,000 guitar. The $500 cap means the selling fee stops growing above $10,000 of sale price, which matters for vintage and boutique instruments: a $20,000 guitar pays $500 in selling fee plus $638.49 in processing, an effective rate under 6%.
There is no listing fee, listings do not expire, and Reverb's Bump feature lets you pay a percentage of the sale price (you choose, typically 1–5%) for extra visibility, charged only if the item sells through a Bumped view.
International sales and currency
Selling to a buyer abroad adds a 1% cross-border processing fee, and listing in a currency different from your payout currency adds a 2.5% currency-conversion fee on the payout. A US seller listing in dollars and shipping to Germany therefore pays about 9.2% + $0.49; a European seller listing in dollars to reach American buyers but paid out in euros pays the 2.5% on every sale. Shipping is the other international cost: Reverb's Safe Shipping programme and its label discounts cover the US, and cross-border parcels for instruments are expensive and slow, so most sellers price international shipping separately.
How Reverb compares for gear
eBay's musical-instruments category is Reverb's real competitor, and eBay charges 6.35% (with a 250-free-listings allowance and payment processing included) on guitars and basses and 13.6% in most other instrument categories. On a $2,000 guitar eBay's 6.35% + $0.40 is about $127.40 against Reverb's $164.29 — eBay is cheaper on guitars, Reverb on pedals, synths and pro audio where eBay charges the full rate. Reverb's audience is gear-specific and its listings carry more detail, which is why many sellers list on both and let the buyer decide.
