How Much Does Walmart Marketplace Take? (2026 Referral Fees by Category)
By the Profitvana Editorial Team · Updated September 2026
The short answer: Walmart Marketplace takes a referral fee of 15% of the total sales price in most categories — $15 on a $100 sale — with no monthly subscription, no listing fees and no per-order fee. Several categories are cheaper (6% for personal computers, 8% for consumer electronics, cameras and major appliances) and a few are tiered by price, which is where apparel, jewelry and watch sellers get surprised. This guide reproduces Walmart's published contract-category schedule, last updated by Walmart on 9 March 2026.
One fee, charged on the whole order
Walmart's only selling fee is the referral fee, a percentage of the total sales price. Walmart defines that total as the item price plus shipping and handling, gift wrap and any other charges to the customer — so shipping you bill the buyer is inside the fee base, exactly as on eBay and Mercari. Payment processing is included; there is no separate card fee.
What Walmart does not charge is as important: no monthly plan (Amazon's Professional plan is $39.99 a month), no listing or insertion fees, and no closing fee. For a seller with a modest catalogue, the absence of a subscription is the whole difference between the two marketplaces at low volume.
| Fee | Walmart Marketplace |
|---|---|
| Referral fee | 6%–20% of total sales price by category (15% most common) |
| Monthly subscription | None |
| Listing / per-order fee | None |
| Payment processing | Included in the referral fee |
The referral fee schedule by category
Walmart assigns each item a contract category during setup, and that category fixes the rate. The schedule below is Walmart's own, condensed; the full list is on the source page linked at the end of this guide.

| Personal Computers | 6% |
| Consumer Electronics · Camera & Photo · Video Game Consoles · Major Appliances | 8% |
| Plumbing, Heating, Cooling · Tires & Wheels | 10% |

Worked examples
Standard 15% category, free shipping, before your own costs: $3.75 on a $25 sale, $15.00 on $100, $37.50 on $250. The tiered categories are where the effective rate diverges from the headline — note the $400 jewelry sale below, where the blended rate is 14.4% despite a 20% headline, and the $2,000 watch at 12%.
| Sale | Category | Referral fee | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100 | Most categories | $15.00 | 15.0% |
| $100 | Consumer Electronics | $8.00 | 8.0% |
| $12 | Apparel | $0.60 | 5.0% |
| $18 | Apparel | $1.80 | 10.0% |
| $40 | Apparel | $6.00 | 15.0% |
| $400 | Jewelry | $50.00 + $7.50 | 14.4% |
| $2,000 | Watches | $225.00 + $15.00 | 12.0% |
Walmart vs Amazon on the same sale
On the referral fee alone, Walmart and Amazon are near-identical: both charge 15% in the bulk of categories and 8% on consumer electronics. The difference is what surrounds the fee. Amazon's Professional plan is $39.99 a month; Walmart has no subscription. Amazon FBA adds fulfilment and storage fees that Walmart Fulfillment Services prices separately. And Walmart is invitation-and-application only, so the fee structure is cheaper partly because fewer sellers get in.
For a seller doing 20 orders a month at $50, Amazon's subscription alone adds $2.00 per order on top of the 15% — turning a 15% marketplace into a 19% one. At 200 orders a month it is 20 cents. | $50 sale, standard category | Walmart | Amazon Professional |
|---|---|---|
| Referral fee (15%) | $7.50 | $7.50 |
| Subscription, spread over 20 orders/month | $0 | $2.00 |
| Subscription, spread over 200 orders/month | $0 | $0.20 |
| All-in at 20 orders/month | 15.0% | 19.0% |
What moves your Walmart fee
Category assignment is the lever. Walmart, not you, assigns the contract category, and a mis-assigned item can sit at 15% when it belongs at 8%; Walmart publishes a dispute process for exactly this. Because the fee is on the total including shipping, free-shipping pricing does not change the fee base — the buyer's total is the same either way. And for tiered categories, the thresholds are per item total, so bundling two $12 apparel items into an $24 listing moves the rate from 5% to 15%: the rare case where splitting listings is cheaper.
