How Much Does TikTok Shop Take? (2026 Seller Fees)

By the Profitvana Editorial Team · Updated August 2026

TikTok Shop has the lowest headline fee of any major marketplace — and frequently the highest real cost. The referral fee is one clean percentage with payment processing already inside it; everything that makes TikTok work as a sales channel sits outside it. Here is what a sale actually costs in 2026, and how to read a rate card that TikTok now keeps behind a login.

The headline fee: 6%, processing included

TikTok Shop's last openly published US referral fee is 6% of the customer payment for most categories. Unlike almost every other marketplace, that single number already contains payment processing — there is no separate 2.9% + 30¢ sitting underneath it.

It is calculated on what the customer pays including any platform discount, and excludes sales tax. Select fine-jewelry categories (diamond, gold, jade, platinum, gemstone) and certain pre-owned categories are 5%.

New sellers who make a first sale within 60 days of onboarding get a promotional 3% for 30 days — useful for testing a product, misleading if you build your pricing around it.

Where the money actually goes

TikTok Shop sales are driven by creators and ads, and both are charged outside the referral fee. A typical affiliate commission is 10–20% of the sale, set by you when you list the product in the creator marketplace.

Put realistic numbers on a $40 product and the 6% headline becomes something else entirely:

A quarter of the sale price, before your product cost. This is the number to plan against — not the 6%.

LineAmount% of sale
Sale price$40.00
Referral fee (6%)−$2.406%
Creator commission (15%)−$6.0015%
Ad spend (typical, per order)−$2.005%
Total platform-tied cost−$10.4026%
Before product and shipping cost$29.6074%

Refunds cost more than they look

When an order is refunded, TikTok returns the referral fee minus a refund administration fee of 20% of that fee, capped at $5 per SKU. On a $40 order that is $0.48 kept from a $2.40 fee — trivial once, meaningful at a 15% return rate.

The bigger asymmetry is elsewhere: creator commission is reversed on a refund, but ad spend is gone. On an impulse-driven channel with high return rates, model returns before you model fees.

TikTok Shop against the other marketplaces

On the referral fee alone TikTok is the cheapest major platform by a wide margin. Once the channel's actual cost of sale is counted, it is usually the most expensive — which is the honest trade: you are buying distribution, not a cheaper checkout.

Why your Seller Center may show a different rate

TikTok publishes its current US rate card inside Seller Center rather than on an open page, and it has changed rates more than once since launch. Third-party articles in 2026 quote wildly different numbers to each other — we have seen 3%, 5%, 8% and 9% all presented as current, none of them traceable to a TikTok-published source.

So treat any figure you read, including ours, as the last openly published rate rather than a guarantee. Check Seller Center → Finance for the rate on your own account, then enter it directly in the TikTok Shop fee calculator under Advanced options — the result will use your number instead of the default.

This is the one platform where we cannot fully honour our usual rule of citing a public official page for every rate, and we would rather say so than publish a number that looks more certain than it is.

Frequently asked questions

How much does TikTok Shop take per sale?

TikTok Shop's last openly published US referral fee is 6% of the customer payment for most categories, with payment processing already included. Select fine-jewelry and pre-owned categories are 5%, and new sellers get a promotional 3% for 30 days after an early first sale.

Does TikTok Shop charge a separate payment processing fee?

No. The referral fee already covers payment processing, which is why TikTok's headline rate looks so much lower than eBay's or Etsy's — those add or embed processing on top of their own commission.

What does a TikTok Shop sale really cost?

Around 20–26% of the sale price once a typical 10–20% creator commission and ad spend are counted. On a $40 sale with 15% commission and $2 of ads, platform-tied costs come to $10.40 before your product cost.

What happens to the fee when an order is refunded?

TikTok refunds the referral fee minus a refund administration fee of 20% of that fee, capped at $5 per SKU. Creator commission is reversed too, but ad spend is not recoverable.

Is TikTok Shop cheaper than Etsy or eBay?

On the referral fee, clearly — 6% against roughly 10–11% on Etsy and about 14% on eBay. Once creator commission and ads are included it is usually more expensive, because on TikTok you are paying for the traffic as well as the transaction.
