Two fees on every sale
The selling fee is 5% of the total sale amount including shipping, with a minimum of $0.50 and a maximum of $500 (USD; CAD, EUR and GBP have their own caps). Listing is free and there is nothing to pay if an item does not sell.
Payment processing is charged on every order regardless of how the buyer pays, calculated on the full order amount including tax. For Reverb Payments in the US it is 3.19% + $0.49, or 2.99% + $0.49 for Reverb Preferred Sellers. Both fees are deducted from your payout; if they cannot be, they land on your month-end statement.

Preferred Seller: what the lower rate is worth
Preferred Sellers pay 2.99% instead of 3.19% on processing — a saving of 0.2% of the order. On $500 that is $1.00; on $50,000 of annual sales it is $100. It is a real discount, but nobody should chase Preferred status for the fee; its value is in visibility. Reverb's page also confirms the cap applies to Preferred Sellers: the $15,000 guitar still pays a $500 selling fee, not $750.
Selling gear abroad
Two extra lines apply when the buyer is in another country. A 1% cross-border processing fee applies when any of the transacting bank accounts sits in a different country (transactions inside the European Economic Area count as domestic). And if you list in a currency other than the one you are paid out in, Reverb applies a 2.5% currency conversion fee to the payout subtotal after processing. A US seller listing in USD and shipping to Canada pays the 1% but not the 2.5%; a US seller who lists in EUR pays both. Reverb against eBay for instruments
eBay's Guitars & Basses category is 6.35% (5.85% with a store) plus a $0.40 per-order fee, with processing included — so about $6.75 on a $100 guitar sale against Reverb's $8.68, and $63.90 against $82.39 at $1,000. eBay is the cheaper fee schedule for ordinary gear by about two percentage points; Reverb's $500 cap narrows the gap on very expensive instruments, and eBay's own reduced rate on the portion of a sale above $7,500 keeps it competitive there too.
