How Much Does Fiverr Take? (2026 Seller Fees)

By the Profitvana Editorial Team · Updated September 2026

The short answer: Fiverr keeps 20% of every order, with no tiers, no volume discounts and no exemption for tips — so you receive $80 of a $100 gig and $40 of a $50 tip. Buyers pay a separate service fee on top of your price. Here is what that 20% means at real gig prices, the second layer of costs when you withdraw, and how Fiverr's flat rate compares with Upwork's variable one.

One number: 20% of everything

Fiverr's seller commission is a flat 20% of the order value. It applies to the base gig price, to gig extras, to custom offers and to tips — the tip is treated as part of the order, so a buyer's $20 thank-you nets you $16. The rate does not change with seller level: a Top Rated seller pays the same 20% as a new seller.

Buyers pay a separate service fee that Fiverr adds at checkout. It does not come out of your 20%, but it raises the price the buyer sees against your listed price, which matters when you are competing on price with freelancers off-platform.

Worked examples

Because the rate is flat, the arithmetic is the easiest of any marketplace: multiply by 0.8. The rows below add a tip to show that it is not exempt:

OrderFiverr takesYou receive
$25 gig$5.00$20.00
$100 gig$20.00$80.00
$100 gig + $20 tip$24.00$96.00
$500 project$100.00$400.00
$2,000 project$400.00$1,600.00

The second layer: getting the money out

The 20% is what Fiverr takes. What reaches your bank is lower again, because every withdrawal method carries its own cost — and for non-US sellers, currency conversion is usually the larger of the two. A seller in Egypt, Pakistan or Brazil withdrawing $400 through a payout provider can lose another 2–4% to conversion spread and fixed transfer fees, taking the real take-rate from 20% toward 23–24%.

Two habits help: withdraw in larger, less frequent batches so fixed fees are spread across more dollars, and compare the exchange rate your payout provider applies against the mid-market rate. Our Payoneer fee calculator and Wise fee calculator model both, and the exchange rates guide explains where the hidden spread lives.

Fiverr vs Upwork

Upwork replaced its flat 10% with a variable 0–15% fee per contract in May 2025, with about 10% the most common rate. That makes Upwork roughly half Fiverr's cost on a like-for-like contract — $100 on Upwork at 10% nets $90 against Fiverr's $80. The difference over a year of freelancing is not small: on $30,000 of billings it is $3,000.

What Fiverr offers for the extra ten points is a marketplace where buyers come to you and pay upfront, no proposal cost, and instant escrow. Which is cheaper in practice depends on how much unpaid time you spend winning work on each platform. See the full comparison in PayPal vs Stripe for freelancers for the payment side, and run the two side by side in the Fiverr vs Upwork calculator.

Pricing for the 20%

The mistake new sellers make is setting a gig at the price they want to earn. To net a target amount, divide it by 0.8: to take home $100 you list at $125. Because tips are also cut, a client who wants to give you $50 extra should ideally add it as a gig extra you have priced with the fee in mind, not as an after-the-fact tip — the fee is the same either way, but the extra is at least priced deliberately. Model any target payout in the Fiverr fee calculator, which solves the price backwards from what you want to keep.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Fiverr take from a $100 order?

$20. Fiverr's seller commission is a flat 20%, so you receive $80 before any withdrawal or currency-conversion fees.

Does Fiverr take 20% of tips?

Yes. Tips are part of the order total and are subject to the same 20% commission. A $50 tip nets you $40.

Do Top Rated sellers pay a lower fee?

No. The 20% commission is the same at every seller level. Levels affect visibility and gig allowances, not the fee.

Is Fiverr or Upwork cheaper for freelancers?

Upwork, on fees alone. Its variable service fee is 0–15% per contract, with about 10% typical, against Fiverr's flat 20%. On $1,000 of work that is $900 kept on Upwork at 10% versus $800 on Fiverr.
