What AliExpress actually charges sellers
AliExpress is a cross-border marketplace owned by Alibaba, and unlike eBay or Etsy it does not publish one global fee table: commission is set per category and per seller programme, and the seller centre shows the rate that applies to your account. Published category commissions cluster between 5% and 8% of the order value, which is why this calculator uses 8% as a conservative default. Because almost every AliExpress order crosses a border, a separate transaction or payment-processing charge of roughly 1–3% applies to the settlement, and payouts arrive in the seller's currency at AliExpress's conversion rate, which is a further cost the calculator cannot see.
Sellers outside China face an extra layer. AliExpress opened to sellers in Spain, Italy, France, Turkey, Brazil, Korea and a few other markets through 'local-to-local' programmes with their own commission schedules and, in some cases, promotional zero-commission periods for new sellers. Those schedules differ from the cross-border rates and change often; enter your own rate rather than relying on the default if you sell through one of them.
Costs the calculator does not include
Shipping is the largest. AliExpress Standard Shipping, Cainiao and the carrier options are priced per route and weight and are usually paid by the seller who then chooses whether to charge the buyer. Promotion tools — coupons, store discounts, Affiliate commissions of 5–10% or more that you set to reach the affiliate network, and paid placement — come out of your margin. Returns under AliExpress's buyer-protection rules can mean refunding without receiving the item back on low-value orders. How AliExpress compares
At 5–8% plus 1–3% processing, AliExpress's take is lower than Amazon's 15% referral fee and eBay's 13.6%, and close to Walmart Marketplace's category rates. The difference is the price level: AliExpress buyers expect low prices and long delivery, so the lower fee is charged on a smaller ticket. Sellers comparing channels should compare net profit per unit, not the fee percentage, using the compare tool.
